modest movies to watch

Hey friends,

I have been busy this past weekend trying to get some projects done around the house! What did y’all do for your long weekend? Usually, we would sit in and watch some movies or play some games to relax. I recently shared my favorite games to play, so I thought it would be nice to share my favorite movies and tv shows that my husband and I enjoy watching! All of these movies and shows in this list are modest and clean, making them great for family movie night. They are also based in the 1800s and 1900s, this is probably one of the reasons they are modest. Unfortunately, I haven’t found any modern based shows or movies that are modest and clean that I find interesting. However, I do enjoy watching cartoon movies, but sadly, they are even starting to be more and more worldly.

Here are my favorite modest movies!

The best clean movies to watch

1. Pride and Prejudice

This movie is such a fun movie to watch. I probably watched the movie a million times just last summer!  It takes us through the lives of a family of young women in England in the late 1700s. It covers romance, family life, and the like. There’s the movie version and the short series version to watch, and I think they are all great. The movie, in my opinion, is clean enough for kids to watch. However, they probably won’t understand what is happening. I deem this movie as a modest movie because there isn’t much drama or scandalous behavior and the scenes with the “issues” are portrayed tastefully.

2. Sense and Sensibility

This movie is similar to Pride and Prejudice and covers the same topics. They also deal with the life events in a tasteful matter and is clean enough for the whole family to watch! I love both of these movies and enjoy the simplicity of them. With all the drama, scandalous and promiscuous behavior in movies today, these movies are like a breath of fresh air! Devin enjoys watching these movies also!

3. Love Comes Softly series

Boy oh boy! This movie series is awesome! I just recently got into them, because I didn’t know they existed before. I am so happy that I came across them. They are Christian movies based on the books written by Janette Oke. These movies have little to no promiscuous or scandalous events. However, they are full of real-life scenarios that will make you tear up and laugh. I would suggest watching them before allowing kids to watch because there’s a lot of serious situations in these movies; such as death. However, these scenes are tastefully and simply made, which is great for kids and adults alike. Also, these movies are full of inspirational moments and guidance! This series has 12 movies in total; you can check out what order to watch them in here!

4. When Calls the Heart

When Calls the Heart is a TV series instead of a movie series, but it won my heart anyway. The mere fact that its a modest and clean TV series is enough to sell it to me. It’s set in the early 1900s in the midwest of Canada (I think). It is beautiful to see how people can get along so well in such hard and simple times. It encourages me to have faith that we can still get along with our neighbors in today’s world too! This TV series is also based on Janette Oke’s books, meaning these are supposed to be Christian based. However, I will say that they do not have as many Christian references as the Love Comes Softly series. It still teaches great lessons and is fun to watch!

5. Little House on the Prairies

I used to watch this show with my mom when I was younger. However, I do not remember much about it. Now that I am older, I want to watch the full series over again. Therefore, I am not too sure of how “modest” the show is or how they deal with certain topics. I’ve looked up the parental guide for it, and the stuff they did review is questionable for smaller kids to watch; examples are guns and adult conversations. It’ll just be my husband watching it and me, but I do suggest for those who have kids to watch the shows before letting your kids watch them (I know you do this already just disclaiming)!

Final thoughts

I know this list is short (kinda). The Love Comes Softly series has twelve full movies, and the other tv series are long with more than five seasons each! So you’ll have tons to watch for a while. Here’s another list of Christian movies that you can try out for yourself. I haven’t watched any of these movies, but I am planning on doing that soon. Therefore, I can not review or give my opinion of them. However, I will love to add to my modest movie list, so if you have any more movies that are worth watching, please leave them in the comments below! I hope these movies bring you joy and laughter along with teaching you or your family a thing or two; I know it did just that for me!

Until next time,

yasmin rose xoxo
