Hey guys,
So I completely neglected this blog for the whole month of December because of my busy schedule. Devin and I are in the middle of a big personal project that I will tell you guys about soon!
However, I should try to write at least one post before the new year. Therefore, I will share with you guys my one word for 2019.
For those who are unfamiliar with choosing one word for the new year, I will give a brief explanation. Basically, instead of making a whole list of resolutions for the new year; you will choose one word that means a lot to you or one word that you think you need God to work in you for the upcoming year. Once you select that one word, you will then study it for the rest of the year!
Studying your one word would look like this:
- Writing your word down in places you will see on a daily basis. You can make this part fun by making decorations with the word such as pictures, wall art and so much more. Be creative!
- Looking the word up in a dictionary.
- Writing that definition down and maybe putting it in places, you can see on a daily basis also.
- Picking a verse from the bible with your word that means a lot to you. This verse should also remind you of what you want God to do with this word for you this upcoming year.
- Making a personalized bible study plan that has other verses and passages that has the word you are studying.
- Reading books that speak and teaches about your word.
- Watching videos or other resources on your word.
- Praying about your word and asking God to work that word into your life this year.
NOTE: I suggest that when picking books, videos and other resources for your word study (along with everyday life), you should make sure that they reflect God’s teachings and stays away from worldly desires and ideas.
My one word for 2019
Okay now that I have explained, I am going to share my one word and the reasons behind choosing it!
My one word for 2019 is DILIGENCE.
During 2018, I tried to establish some habits that I do not think stuck. I would say I failed at staying diligent and consistent with them because I either lost sight of my goal or got discouraged.
Therefore, I need God to give me diligence so that I can establish my goals and become the woman God wants me to be. Some of the habits I want to develop and stick to is having a daily Bible study routine, eating healthier, being a better homemaker and sharing God’s word. I have other goals I want to accomplish, but for now, I will leave the list to those.
I have also picked Galatians 6:9 as my verse to go along with my one word. I feel that this is such an inspiring and encouraging verse to repeat especially when life gets busy or discouraging.
Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
“9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
I am in the process of making my personalized reading plan for my word diligence, and I hope you guys make one also. To make your own, look up the word in the concordance of your Bible to find verses with that word.
Helpful tip: Get a thesaurus to help you find related words to look up in the concordance also. This will give you a variety of verses to study.
Also, keep in mind that some verses may not relate to your use of the word so you may need to shorten your list a bit. That is where guidance from the Lord comes in!
Devin has picked the word freedom for his one word because he wants God to free him from worry and worldly ideas! He takes on so much, and it sometimes burdens him so I am thankful for this because I can only comfort him so much. I think we will probably learn from each other’s words at the same time too!
Final thoughts
The year 2018 has been a fantastic year for me. I am thankful that God has allowed me to accomplished so many goals I set out to finish! One of the most beautiful things that I have realized through my reflection is how much God has worked in me and through me this past year.
I am excited to see what God has in store for all of us this upcoming year. I pray that 2019 is a year of many blessings for all of you guys and hope that we all get to accomplish what we set out to do.
I am so excited for my word and to see how God will work diligence into my life! I am also excited to see my husband find freedom from worry and stress! Please let me know what words you guys have chosen so I can be excited for you all too!!
Happy new year everyone!
Until next time,
yasmin rose xoxo
